Reverend Calvin Fitzgerald Fikes, Sr., was selected as the 5th Pastor of the 112-year-old St. John Baptist Church here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in December 2021. He was born November 25, 1974 to the late Johnny Lee Flowers and Virginia Fikes in Uniontown, Alabama. He is a graduate of R. C. Hatch High school. He is a 2000 graduate of Alabama A&M University, Normal, Alabama with a degree in Elementary Education. He has served as an elementary school teacher for the Tuscaloosa City Schools for over 20 years.

In 2008 he earned an educational leadership certification from the University of West Alabama, Livingston, Alabama. He has completed one level of studies and is currently enrolled at Samford University, pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies.

At an early age, he confessed Christ at the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend Adolf Smith. It was there, Reverend Fikes recognized his admiration for God, family and the community. He and his wife joined St. John Baptist Church in 2007. Having been ordained as a deacon in 2016, he surrendered his will to the Lord and accepted the call to ministry on October 1, 2017, under the leadership of the late Rev. Roy L. Ferguson, then pastor of the St. John Baptist Church. As an associate minister at St. John, he served as Young Adult Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Instructor, Morning Service Worship Leader and assisted with Baptism and monthly communion. 

Pastor Fikes is a man who loves God, God's people, and His Word.  He enjoys family time; relaxing, reading and learning whatever he can to share with others.  He enjoys preaching and teaching the Word of God with power, conviction, and simplicity at every opportunity that avails without compromise. 

He accepts the responsibility of guiding young minds to excel academically, just as he accepts his greatest task as leading souls to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

As a loving and committed man, Reverend Fikes is married to the lovely, Leah Fikes, and they are proud parents of three wonderful children, Calvin, Jr., Caleah, and Caden.
